The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the recently concluded 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Kano State Government over the tragic accident involving members of the state’s contingent.
The unfortunate incident occurred as the athletes were returning home after participating in the festival held in Ogun State. A bus conveying the contingent was reportedly involved in a crash at the Dakatsalle Bridge in the Kura Local Government Area of Kano State, shortly after passing through Kaduna State. The accident claimed the lives of 21 athletes.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, especially the loss of these young, promising individuals—budding stars who had so much to offer our nation through their talent, skill, and passion for sports,” said Kweku Tandoh, Executive Secretary of the LOC.
“Words cannot fully express the sorrow we feel over this loss. We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families. We pray that God grants them strength and comfort during this difficult time,” he added.
