The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) supported the Scientific Conference at the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, as part of its commitment to fostering a sustainable and thriving sports economy in Nigeria.
According to the Director General of NIPSS, Professor Ayo Omotayo, this initiative aligns with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes the strategic development of key sectors, including sports. He noted that the directive to support the growth of the sports economy was part of the presidential mandate to the newly established National Sports Commission (NSC).

Professor Omotayo highlighted that this marks the beginning of a collaborative effort between NIPSS and the NSC to build a robust and viable sports economy. He stressed the importance of sound policy formulation and strategic implementation to avoid policy inconsistencies that have historically hindered progress in the sector.
He further emphasized that the sports industry, as a vital component of the creative economy, must be empowered to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
