True to its title as the Pace Setter State, Oyo is gearing up for a powerful showing at the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024, in Ogun State.
The state’s formidable contingent comprises 320 athletes, 65 coaches, and 36 officials, all proudly donning Oyo’s colors. According to the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, the team will compete in 32 sporting events, 27 compulsory and five optional.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to sports development, Adegoke announced that Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a minimum wage of ₦80,000 for athletes, coaches, and contract sports officers in the state. “This act of magnanimity will not only boost morale but also serve as a strong motivation for our athletes at the festival and beyond,” she said.

She further revealed that instant rewards will be given to medal-winning athletes, with comprehensive support in place to ensure their participation is both comfortable and memorable.
Also addressing the contingent, the Executive Assistant on Sports Development to the Governor urged athletes to uphold discipline and avoid any conduct that could tarnish the image of the state.
He emphasized that outstanding performances would be duly recognized and rewarded.
With high morale and solid preparation, Oyo is poised to make a bold statement at the Gateway Games 2024.
