With a contingent of 100 athletes and 50 officials, Anambra State is determined to surpass its previous performance at the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024.
The team is aiming to improve on its last outing in Edo State, where it secured a total of 39 medals, comprising six gold, nine silver, and 24 bronze.
This year, Anambra will compete in 20 sporting disciplines, including Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Chess, Darts, Deaf Table Tennis, Karate, Kickboxing, and Wushu Kungfu.
The team will also feature in Para Athletics, Scrabble, Swimming, Taekwondo, Ncho, Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

Ahead of their departure to Ogun State on Friday, May 16, 2025, the athletes underwent an intensive five-day closed training camp in Awka. According to Emeka Obidimma, Director of Sports for Anambra State, the camp helped sharpen the team’s readiness and competitive edge.
Obidimma praised the leadership of Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Commission, for his exceptional support in administration, logistics, and technical preparation.
“Anambra is not just here to participate; we are here to win,” Obidimma declared. “Our goal is to meet and exceed our previous record. The spirit in camp is high, and our athletes are ready to go for glory.”
He also expressed deep appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his unwavering support and commitment to sports development in the State.
