International School Lagos (ISL) showcased their superiority by emerging as the best team at the MTN CHAMPS Lagos. ISL delivered a commanding performance, clinching three out of the four available trophies in the Cadet and Youth categories.
In the Cadet Girls’ team category, ISL secured the title with a dominant 71-point haul. Leading the charge was Ebubechukwu Chiejine, who earned points in three events—gold in the Long Jump, bronze in the 100m, and 6th place in the 200m. They outpaced Anglican Comprehensive, which finished with 31 points, largely thanks to Abigael Ogunbowale, who was the champion in both the 200m and 400m. Difference Academy came in third with 19 points.
In the Cadet Boys’ division, Greensprings School Lekki swept the sprints and racked up 67 points. Their standout performers included Abdulaleem Abdulsalam, who won the 100m and 200m, and Isaac Nwabunike, who triumphed in the 400m and Long Jump. They edged out Caleb British International, which scored 30 points, and Faith Academy, which finished with 24 points.
ISL continued their winning streak in the Youth Girls’ category, topping the leaderboard with 70 points. Corona Secondary School, Agbara, followed with 42 points, and Faith Academy came in third with 37 points. ISL’s dominance was highlighted by a 1-2 finish in both the Discus and Shot Put events, thanks to Blessing Agbowon and Moyosoreoluwa Adebesin.
On the Youth Boys’ side, ISL again took the team title with 63 points, driven by Mohamed Jimoh’s outstanding performance. He contributed 28 points through victories in the Long Jump and High Jump, a silver in the 200m, and a 4th-place finish in the 4x100m relay. Faith Academy placed second with 35 points, while Corona Schools secured third with 31 points.
ISL’s stellar showing makes them only the second team in MTN CHAMPS history to claim three team trophies at a single leg, following Baptist Vocational’s triple win at the Season 2 Grand Finale in Calabar last year.
In each category, all finalists earn points for their schools: 10 points for 1st place, 8 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd, 5 points for 4th, 4 points for 5th, 3 points for 6th, 2 points for 7th, and 1 point for 8th place. Points are doubled for all relay events.
