The 2025 ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon will commence with an expo where athletes can collect their kits starting Thursday, February 20, at the Federal Secretariat Car Park, Eagles Square, Abuja.

The marathon, scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2025, will feature two races: a half-marathon and a 5-kilometer fun race. The half-marathon will start and finish at the ECOWAS Commission, while the 5km race will begin at the Independence Bridge near Sahad Stores and conclude at the ECOWAS Commission.

Race Director Gabriel Okon announced that running bibs and vests must be collected at the VIO Container Booth, Federal Secretariat Car Park, Eagle’s Square, Abuja, from February 20 to 28, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. Participants must present valid proof of identification to collect their running bibs. Those collecting on behalf of others must provide an authority note, a copy of the completed entry form with a photograph, and a copy of the participant’s valid proof of identification. Collectors must also present proof of their identity.

Registration remains open to runners worldwide until February 28, while residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) can pick forms at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package A, Abuja, the FCT Sports Council, and the Area Councils.

Speaking about the marathon, Okon emphasized the unifying power of sports in West Africa. He highlighted that the ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon encourages residents of the FCT to embrace walking, jogging, and running, which offer significant health benefits. The marathon has been a tool for youth empowerment and engagement, positively impacting the FCT economy, particularly the hospitality and allied industries, and boosting tourism.
