Galatasaray Sports Club President Dursun Aydın Özbek has expressed his excitement over the acquisition of Victor Osimhen, emphasizing the club’s high expectations for the Nigerian star.
“Victor is a very important transfer for Galatasaray and Turkish sports. Especially in our European campaigns and our goal of securing the fifth star in Turkey, Galatasaray has very high expectations from him. I am confident he will meet these expectations. As a Galatasaray fan, having such world-class footballers in our club pleases me, the board of directors, and Galatasaray fans a lot. I wish him success and hope he will make a great contribution to our efforts this year,” Özbek told the Galatasaray website.
Meanwhile, Osimhen shared his thoughts after signing the official contract with Galatasaray. The Nigerian forward stated that it was an easy decision to join the club once he learned of their interest and highlighted his admiration for the team.
“When I heard about Galatasaray’s interest, it was an easy decision for me. I knew how big Galatasaray was and how much of a family it felt like. It has incredible fans. Henry Onyekuru, my friend who played for Galatasaray, told me how great the club, the fans, and the people here are. So it was an easy decision for me. When I landed at the airport, the fans welcomed me with such excitement, and I was very happy about that. Such things are important for a player. I want to do everything I can for them. I am eagerly waiting for this project. I am very excited,” Osimhen said.
The star center forward also expressed his excitement about reuniting with Dries Mertens, his former teammate at Napoli.
“Dries Mertens was always with me when I went to Italy. He was like a big brother to me. He is someone I respect very much, and I am very excited to be his teammate again. I am looking forward to meeting my teammates as soon as possible,” he added.
Osimhen mentioned that he has been following Galatasaray’s matches and is eager to contribute to the team. “I was already watching Galatasaray matches. I was following how Mertens has been playing since he came here. I was following how he was developing as a person and as a player. Their interaction with the fans when they score goals and win matches is also exciting. Now I hope that our fans will support me after every goal. I am waiting with excitement,” he said.
