In the last two years, 16-year-old Hana Goda has dominated the table tennis scene in Africa claiming the African Cup and Championships but the world number 30 is keen on adding that African Games title to her laurels.

Goda, who is making her debut at the 13th African Games has worked her way to the semifinal while affirming her intention to add the gong to her kitty.

“The tournament comes every four year and it is important to add this to my pocket before it goes away,” a confident Goda said after beating Lynda Loghraibi 4-0 to hit the semifinal stage of the women’s singles.

“The standard of this tournament is similar to other continental competitions but the condition are different while the number of players are much here. I will keep fighting hoping that I can get it this time,” she said.

Goda’s global fame came when she 11 as she became the first African to be ranked No 1 in the world in the U-15 cadet category when she was 12.

In 2023, she became the youngest to win the African Senior Championship at 15.

Goda is Paris-bound with team Egypt for the Olympic Games this summer.
