2019 African Games champion Chinazum Nwosu will begin her third attempt at qualifying for the Olympic Games when she takes on Mali’s Moham Aissata Siby in the first round of the women’s -49kg.
At the weigh-in on Friday, February 9, Nwosu weighed 48.1kg to be listed among the 14 athletes jostling for the two tickets available in the division.

Having featured at the Rio 2026 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifications in Morocco, Nwosu believes she is primed to make it to the Olympic Games.
Already, the coach Victor John had expressed optimism in the ability of Nwosu whom she described as one of the most experienced members of the national team.
According to the President of Africa Taekwondo Union (AFTU) and Vice-President of World Taekwondo Ide Issaka, the qualifiers hope to be exciting as countries battle for the 16 tickets available in the four weight categories for men and women.
“It is a great pleasure to extend an invitation to your member national association to participate in the African Qualification Tournament for Paris 2024 Olympic Games to be held in Dakar, Senegal, on February 10 and 11. I expect that this tournament will serve as an opportunity for your team to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games. The organizing committee will ensure every possible effort to provide a successful tournament of the highest guarantee of quality organization and competition with the best international referees in order to guarantee maximum transparency, fair play & impartiality for the athletes,” Issaka said.

For the African Qualification Tournament for Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a total of sixteen (16) quota places are available: eight (8) male and eight (8) female places with a maximum of one (1) athlete per weight category and per country, as the top two (2) ranked athletes (Finalists) in the weight categories will qualify a place each for Paris Olympic games.
