Nigeria tasted defeat in their opening matches of the 2024 African Sitting Volleyball Championship (African Paralympics qualifiers) which kicked off on Monday January 29 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium.

It was the women’s team that first suffered defeat in the opening match of the championships as the host team were overwhelmed by their Kenyan counterpart.
The visiting Kenyan team were dominant throughout the encounter to win the tie at 3-0 (25-15, 25-6, 21-15) to set the tone for their eventual qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in France.
Just like they did to the female team of Nigeria, the men’s team from Kenya also dominated the host with another 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-12) to put the host team in a tight corner.

Nigeria will be hoping to bounce back on Tuesday January 30 when the women’s team face Rwanda while the men’s team will clash against Morocco.
The tournament ends on February 3.
